It's officially summer in Barcelona and, if your plan for this July is to sweat as little as possible, we have the perfect excuse: escape the heat by playing board games in air conditioning. At KLEFF, Europe's largest board game community, we're closing the first half of the year with a calendar full of special events within our game nights at L'Estació - Espai Gastronòmic, tournaments with prizes, a gastronomic getaway, and a very special edition of our format for meeting new people.
If you still don't know KLEFF, we are a non-profit association with over 13,450 kleffers and a game library of more than 500 games. Every week we meet to play, practice languages, and make new friends, without needing to know how to play beforehand: at the event, we'll explain any game to you. July starts strong: Game Night and Heat: Pedal to the Metal tournament
The July calendar kicks off on Wednesday, July 1st with our weekly game night at L'Estació - Espai Gastronòmic, starting at 7 PM, in Spanish, Catalan, and English. On the same day, we're also holding the Heat: Pedal to the Metal tournament, with prizes and gifts for those who make it to the podium. If you enjoy racing games with resource management and a bit of on-the-fly strategy, this is your event: several elimination rounds will be played until the grand final.

Women's Board Game Slow Friending: make friends by playing
This month we have a special edition of our Board Game Slow Friending format, designed specifically for women looking to expand their circle of friends in Barcelona. The dynamic is the usual: we use board games as an excuse to break the ice, without the pressure of speed dating, with the sole objective of fostering conversations and real connections. If you've just arrived in the city or simply feel your group of friends has become small, this event is designed for you.
July tournaments: Codenames Duet and Himizu
In addition to Heat, July brings two more events for lovers of healthy competition:
Codenames Duet: our particular version of the classic deduction and communication game, played in teams of two. Ideal if you want to come with a companion or if you fancy forming a game pair on the fly with another kleffer.
Himizu Tournament with game demonstration: before the tournament, we'll do a demo for anyone unfamiliar with this asymmetric fire-versus-water duel for two players, so you can sign up even if you've never tried it before.
As always, spots for the tournaments are limited, so we recommend reserving your spot as soon as registration opens on our Meetup.
We're back at Kasa Hanaka Mas Guinardó: board games and Japanese cuisine
We're repeating one of our favorite events on the calendar: an afternoon-evening of board games at Kasa Hanaka Mas Guinardó, where you can combine a game and homemade Japanese gastronomy in one plan. We already tried it with the Sitting Bull demo on our last visit, and in July, we're bringing the KLEFF game library back to this corner of Barcelona for those who prefer a quieter plan, with a smaller table and good food in between.
We close July at Hugo's Diner with the Board Game Slow Friending Romance Edition
To close the month, we're moving to Hugo's Diner with a very special edition: the Board Game Slow Friending Romance Edition. The same philosophy as always: board games as a catalyst for meeting new people, but with a dynamic designed for those looking for more than just friendship. No express speed dating here: the pace is set by the game, and conversations flow naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions about KLEFF's July calendar
Do I need to know how to play board games to come? No. At all our events, including tournaments, the KLEFF team will explain the rules of any game before you start.
Is it free to participate in KLEFF game nights? The game library is free to use. As they are held in a restaurant, it is customary to order a minimum consumption, and some special tournaments and events (such as Heat, Codenames Duet, or Board Game Slow Friending) have a small entrance fee that includes a drink.
How do I sign up for tournaments or Board Game Slow Friending? Through our Meetup, where we publish each event with date, time, and registration link. As capacity is limited, we recommend reserving your spot in advance.
Where are the July events held? Most events, including weekly game nights, tournaments, and Women's Board Game Slow Friending, are held at L'Estació - Espai Gastronòmic. The gastronomic visit is at Kasa Hanaka Mas Guinardó, and the end-of-month event with Board Game Slow Friending Romance Edition takes place at Hugo's Diner.
