Hidden Roles Fest/year
The genre

Lies, plots, and secret identities.

In hidden role games, each player secretly receives a role —loyal, traitor, assassin, leader, spy…— and must use the information they have (or pretend to have) to win for their side. Some roles openly collaborate, others sabotage from within, and most don't know who to trust. The magic is at the table: what's important isn't the cards, but the conversations, the glances, the accusations, and the life-or-death votes. It's an ideal genre for large groups, perfect for meeting new people, and absolutely addictive when you start to see who lies well and who lies very poorly.

Subgenres

Not all traitors play the same way.

There's a hidden role game for every type of table: from the coldest deduction to the most theatrical role-playing.

Social Deduction

Look, listen, deduce

The important thing is to read the table: who takes time to speak, who avoids a question, who accuses too soon. Tense and very chatty games.

E.g.: The Resistance: Avalon
Logic and Information

Clues that fit

Each turn reveals partial information. The good side has to cross-reference it; the bad side, to muddy it. Rewards attention and patience.

E.g.: Deception: Murder in Hong Kong
Deception and Bluffs

Lie with a poker face

Here, those who dare to bluff win… and those who know when to believe the person opposite them. Lots of ego, lots of laughter.

E.g.: Coup, Mascarade
Secret Identities

Who are you really?

Each player hides their role. Some know each other, others go completely blind. Betrayal is guaranteed.

E.g.: Secret Hitler, Salem 1692
Roleplaying

Get into character

Beyond the mechanics, what matters is interpreting. Accents, alibis, final monologues, and lots of overcome embarrassment.

E.g.: Murder Mystery, Blood on the Clocktower
Teams and Traitors

Trust… until you don't

Variants where a seemingly united team discovers it has moles within. Cooperation turns into paranoia.

E.g.: Infiltraitors, Traitors Aboard
Themed events

Murder Mystery: one night, one crime, a murderer among us.

A Murder Mystery is an evening where each participant embodies a character with their own story, motives, and secrets. One of them is the murderer and the rest must discover them through interrogations, clues, and a lot of role-playing. At KLEFF, we organize them regularly, with our own scripts or licensed materials.
