Some new games we’ve been playing

If you are into board games, you will surely know that new games are released practically every day. Although we think it is great to try new games and keep up to date with the latest news, it is also interesting to visit those games that you already have in your collection and have not yet released due to lack of time or not finding the right people to play them (how to meet people to play board games in Barcelona?). Here are some recent board games you may not be familiar with:

  1. Ark V (TCG Factory)

Arka V is a board game with a planetary or intergalactic theme in which we take the role of pilots of interstellar ships to explore the universe. The objective of the players is to get the largest number of aliens and offer them a destination to a new planet. A game with a lot of interaction between players in which we can sabotage the competition to get more points than the other players. Also, one of its strengths is that the rules can evolve as the gaming community throws in more games. We had the opportunity to organize a tournament during Big Day in February 2023 and it was a resounding success. Take a look at the photos we uploaded on our Instagram.

  1. Lacrimosa (Devir)

Without a doubt, we are facing one of the Spanish games that have generated the most hype in recent years. We find ourselves with a game with a very original theme, rarely seen in the world of board games: the life and work of the musical composer Mozart.

Lacrimosa is a game in which players must carry out actions with the gigantic board in which each of its parts allows us to carry out certain actions as well as with the components. A game that allows us to carry out different strategies in each of the games since the huge board allows us to focus on different aspects in each game and try to get victory points in different ways: travel the map of Europe and visit the most important courts. influential people on the continent, complete the score of their latest masterpiece with the respective musical notes or perform and sell the works of Mozart.

  1. Challengers! (Asmodee)

A game that we have defined as the “tournament of tournaments”. Yes, in Challengers! we find a great capture the flag tournament! The main mechanics of the game is deck management in which we can do 4 simultaneous duels, each player facing a new adversary each round.

There are few board games for large groups that are not typical of hidden roles like Werewolf or words like Codenames. One of its strong points is the simplicity of the rules that allows for fluidity and dynamic games, with duels with different players continuously and a limited elimination of players at the end. Also, special mention to the importance of art in board games, very well implemented in this fun board game.

  1. Ecosfera: Rewilding the World (Julibert Games)

In this new title from the authors of We Can Play: Women Who Changed the World, we find a game in which we try to restore wild nature. It is a game for 1 to 4 players, with games lasting approximately 40 minutes. The core mechanic is deck building, with a cooperative approach bringing a fresh air to this often highly competitive genre.

During the game, players will use combinations of the elements of their decks to try to get plant cards and mushrooms that, later, will allow them to get animal cards and get the different biomes. In this way, through the cards we will be able to get the 7 different biomes that will allow us to win or lose the game if we have too many extinction cards. A game with an important ecological purpose, which aims to raise awareness about the care of the planet.

We really liked the design of the game, with spectacular art and well-cared materials!

5. Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game (Asmodee)

Another game that is causing a sensation is Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game. A game of simple rules with a well-known game mechanics, Star Realms or Hero Realms style, of direct confrontation between two players in which we recreate the conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance.

In this way, the objective of each player is none other than to be the first to destroy three bases of the opponent. To do this, each player will alternate turns in which each player will use the cards in his hand to obtain credits with which to buy new cards, put the Force on his side and attack the opponent’s bases.

The games are especially agile since in many turns the players will only play their cards and execute the corresponding effects. Therefore, if you are a Star Wars fan, this is a fantastic option. May the force be with you!

Currently, at the time of publication of this post, it is in a Kickstarter campaign for its financing.
